Office Update and Registry Errors ?

F

frobisher

I am running Office 2003 Professional and have tried many times to install
Office Updates but they always fail. I am getting desperate because I cannot
install even the vital security updates !
Most of the steps in MS articles have been tried but unfortunately I don't
have the original CD so there are some which I cannot try.

Does anyone know what the following error log text means ?
"Expected product {901C0409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9}, found product
{90110409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9}."

This appears on all error logs for all installation attempts.
Do I have a registry problem and how can I resolve this if I do ?

I have not had the computer from 'new' but the Office 2003 pro was installed
when I first bought it.
Another point is that up to March last year I was able to install security
updates.
I think something happened after that which now causes installation failure
and I'm hoping the info in the error log file will hold the key to fixing the
problem.
Any ideas ?

Thanks for your help

4. Right click on 11.0 and rename them to Old11.
5. Close the Registry Editor.

2nd. Detect and Repair Office 2003

1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start, point to and click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.

Thanks for your reply Peter.
I have tried most of the steps before without success. As I said, I do not
have the original CD so I can't try the "Detect and Repair Office 2003"
solution. Is there anything else I can do ?
Does the error log entry mean anything to you ?
"Expected product {901C0409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9}, found product
{90110409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9}."

Why don't you have the original CDs? If lost, you can request a replacement.

Afaik you have no choice but to get Office 2003 CD's.Depending which version of Off2003 is installed you might find it on EBay or similar. Aside from that you can try and get one from the OEM supplier that built the computer
