Office Update downloads but won't install updates.

Office Update has identified and downloaded 4 updates which it says this
system needs. However, when it goes to install them, the bar starts across
the page, then the whole thing quits with "Installation Unsuccessful".

What's up?

If none of that works, try downloading the updates yourself and installing
them manually.

Thanks for your response. However 304498 seems to be more aimed at people
who are having trouble identifying and downloading the updates, rather than
installing them.

What I am looking for is a list of causes for this error message to appear:
That is, from an examination of the code, all the possible jumps to this
error message, in a list form, so that I can eliminate them one at a time.

Would you have such a list?

No; I don't believe anyone outside of Microsoft has such a list. I do think
that article is the best place to start.
It addresses problems both downloading and installing the updates from the
Office Update site. Note that "installation unsuccessful" is one of the
errors listed in that article.

You can also search the Microsoft Knowledgebase yourself for the error
message, if you don't think this article is worth trying. Use the search
screen here:

You may get additional articles that will provide a clue. Hope that
