Office update error...help

Received error "The Office Update Catalog cannot be displayed" after running
office update online. Why and/or how do I fix this?

Hi, Candi,

Try the steps here:

The update process starts and then unexpectedly quits after you click "Check
for Updates" on the Office Update Web site:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;304498

Or, try re-installing Windows Script host v5.6:

http://microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=c717d943-7e4b-4622-86eb-95a22b832caa

Note that it is part of Internet Explorer v6.

Symptom:

In a Windows 9x/me system with Office 2000 installed, at 40% of a
Office Update scan, the "The Office Update Catalog cannot be displayed
page http://office.microsoft.com/officeupdate/error.aspx?Code=3&Error
is displayed.

Possible cause:

The C:\Program Files\OfficeUpdate11\oudetect.dll file is missing.

Fix:

From another Windows 9x/me system, obtain oudetect.dll 277,504 11-17-0
11:12p and place it at C:\Program Files\OfficeUpdate11\.

Related notes:

If the following is removed from C:\Program Files\OfficeUpdate11\ an
an Office Update scan is then done:

Cabs folder -- no change
ident.cab file -- recreated
ident.ini file -- recreated
500200_inventory.as file -- recreated
500200_bitmask.as file -- recreated
500200_0x00000409.des file -- recreated
ouhistv3.log file -- no change
oudetect.cab file -- no change
oudetect.dll file -- caused the above error

In another Windows 9x computer where Office Update was workin
correctly, all files in C:\Program Files\OfficeUpdate11\ were remove
and, with the exception of the ouhistv3.log file, were recreated th
next time an Office Update scan was run.

The ouhistv3.log file is recreated and updated if any outstandin
Office Updates are applied
