Office Update Install Fails

When I tried to update Office the five (5) security
patches downloaded and looked like they installed but the
Web Page Dialog Box came up and said "Installation
Unsuccessful".
Office XP Security Patch: KB822036
Word 2002 Security Patch: KB824934
Microsoft Project 2002 Security Patch: KB822211
Office XP WordPerfect 5.x Converter Security Patch:
KB824938 (English Version)
Access 2002 Snapshot Viewer Security Patch: KB826293

When I click the Finish button, the Installation
troubleshooter comes up with unhelpful suggestions and
the opportunity to report the error to Microsoft, which I
did.
I had trouble with my Windows XP update this month, which
I overcame by deleting cookies, deleting files and
clearing history in the Tools section. It does not seem
to help in this case. What should I do

When I did a "check for updates" response was,

Error! Unable to check for updates on this computer Help

The Office Update site is unable to check for updates on
this computer. This may be happening because of one of
the following reasons:

You do not have administrative privileges for this
computer.
There is a network problem and the detection catalog used
by the Office Update site failed to download. Go back to
the Downloads home page and try running detection again.
Windows Installer patch files (.MSP files) from
previously applied Office updates are missing from the
\Windows\Installer hidden directory on your computer. MSP
files are stored on your computer after update
installation completes because they need to be referenced
for future update operations. If the files are missing
you will not be able to apply Office updates. You may
also be unable to uninstall Office products as a result
of the same problem. Please contact Microsoft Product
Support for assistance.
You installed Office updates in the past and then
upgraded from Windows Installer version 1.0 to Windows
Installer version 1.1. For more information see the KB
article Windows Installer May Prompt for Install Source
if Unavailable.

I didn't get that message. Mine was "Installation
Unsuccessful." However, I did hear from Microsoft and I
will try their stuff tonight. I'll post whatever the
outcome is.

I'm having the same problem updating with "installation
unsuccessful". Did the Microsoft stuff work? and if so
can you please inform me of the fix?.

Thanks.
