Office Update Inventory Tool

Ever since the Update Inventory Tool was updated yesterday I can no longer use the tool. I downloaded the newest files and reinstalled. However when I try to inventory my pc it fails because it can't find the newly required puids.dat file that installs as a result of running the invcif.exe file, something new for v2.1. The \inventory\cifs directory that is created has a new date of 7/27/04 but the cifs file created inside still has a date of 6/8/04 like it did before and there is no puids.dat file. I've re-downloaded the invcif.exe several times. Was it not actually updated? I can't do anything without the puids.dat file. I've searched my hard drive for it and have no files hidden in explorer. The inventory tool is now useless.

Is your Internet connection behind a proxy server? You are not actually download the new Inventory Tool catalog, but an old version that's likely cached by a proxy server.
