Office Update Issue

I am the Sr Help Desk person at a company. We use Win2k Pro as our
Desktop OS and we use imaging software to speed the setup of our PC's
as we have a lot of in house configurations.

Every once in a while we go in and update the images (download updates
for all the software) including updating Office XP Pro which we use.

The issue is that on these pc's I log in as Adminstrator and run the
office updates.

But then when the user logs in and the computer sets up their profile
and try to open word or excel office runs an installer and give a 1706
error. You can click close and windows/excel will open but EVERY time
you open those programs as the restricted user that office update runs
and gives the 1706 error.

The only way I've been able to make it go away is insert the XP Pro CD
- do a runas to open the add/remove programs as the administrator and
do a repair.

I don't know if the repair, however, is rolling back the updates.

But of course, you don't get any of these errors after you install the
updated and run Word/Excel as the administrator.

Any ideas on why this happens and if the repair rolls back the
updates??

Thanks
