Office update should not require the product CD

I saw the KB article regarding the design of Office Updates, and the
explanation for why the product CD is required. I appreciate the complexity
of these issues. Nevertheless, I really think you need to rework Office
Update so that the product CD is never required. This is the case for
Windows Update, and if it can work for Windows, surely it could be made to
work for Office, too.

Here's the issue. I don't think about Office updates very often. Every now
and then, in the middle of a busy day, an Office application will crash, and
the crash diagnosis will recommend obtaining the updates. However, like most
users, I don't keep my CDs handy, and I'm not about to take a bunch of time
out of a busy day to hunt them down. So in practice, the computer never gets
updated.

Because of the superior design of Windows Update, its updates happen
automatically and regularly, and without requiring me to find and insert
product CDs.

Well, it's just a suggestion, but I think it would make much more sense than
what you're doing now.
