MS Office Update site is indicating I need to download and install Office
2000 SR1a. But I am using Office XP. Why should I do that? Is this some
kind of error?

Check your Add/Remove option from Control Panel. Chances are that you still
have an Office 2000 program installed, such as Front Page or another Office
2000 version product.
