Office Update SP3 "unsuccessful" ...WHY and HOW DO I INSTALL IT ???

R

Richard

Hi

Have OfficeXP running on WinXP SP2.

Office update says that I should install Office SP3 as a "critical" item
..........

Every time I try it (even with all office software shut down) it simply
fails saying that installation was "unsuccessful".

No further diagnostic information about the failure is available.

Can anybody tell me of an objective analysis I can use (ie. not a guessing
game or try this/that) to find out exactly why this upgrade fails?

Likewise, what do I need to do to install it successfully?

Thanks

Thanks ..... and now (having followed that link) I know just what utter crap
software Micro$haft spews out!

A pick one from nine methods of HIT-and-MISS (!) try it and see what happens
to attempt to get MS Office to update.

Including the ultra senseless one of turn off all firewalls ........ yeah
right.

I think I'll just forget SP3 until Micro$haft can come up with some decent
software that *can* install itself with me having to spend hours trying one
thing after another and *without* me having to expose my PC to hackers
whilst doing so.
