Office update sp3

We recently downloaded service pack 3 to update office.
After we installed the update we now get the
message "unable to read file" anytime we try to open a
file in excel or word. I have uninstalled Office and
reinstalled it and it works fine until I download the
update. Unfortunately, I have to have the update to run
another software I have that uses excel.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hey, I'm having very similar problems. Unfortunately I reinstalled and this
didn't fix the problem for us. Both word and excel seem to hang when trying
to open existing files. Have you had any error messages that offer to
recover files even with new files?

Did you do anything else in addition to unistalling/reinstalling to get it
to work again?

thanks,

sean

I discovered the solution to the problem I was having
with excel saying unable to read file on another
newsgroup posting. Microsoft Knowledge Base Article
329820 has the solution. It is a problem with Norton
Anti-Virus.

I had many of the same problems. I changed the name of 'officeav.dll',
rebooted and the problem went away.

Try it
