Office Update tool

S

sleepless in miami

I clicked on help menu > check for updates in my office 2003 sp3, outlook
tool bar.

It took me to microsoft downloads page.

I looked for office 2003 and clicked on it.

The page had links to updates but said I should be using the 'OFFICE UPDATE
TOOL' that is 'ON THIS SITE'

I did many searches and looked at every link. As far as I can tell there is
no such 'OFFICE UPDATE TOOL' unless it is very well hidden.

Any clues as to where this thing is? I used to be able to just manually
update it or check to see if it was up to date. Now I just go to a general
download page that has nothing to do with my version, but instead all
versions of everything.

It's all done through MU these days.

It would have been nice to know what OS you're using as Vista doesn't use
the website but Windows XP does, so big difference:

Microsoft Update overview
Microsoft Update is a Microsoft Web site that offers the same downloads that
are available from Windows Update-plus the latest updates for Microsoft
Office and other Microsoft programs.

When you visit Microsoft Update, the site scans your computer and gives you
a list of updates relevant to your computer and its configuration. You then
decide which updates you want to download and install.

Thanks for the response. Sorry about the OS not being listed
I'm trying to use my Ofc 2000 Premium w/Vista SP1. Yes, I know it isn't
compatible.
Someone gave me instructions on how to do the run with "Win XP Compatability,
but now I can't find it.

I tried to install the Service Packs for OFC 2000 after doing a clean
install but I kept getting an error response; "Expected version of the
product was not found on your system:". However it shows as installed in my
add/remove programs area.

Is there any workaround to this problem. My budget doesn't allow the
purchase of 2007.

Thanks for trying but none of these worked. Never could find the
compatability tab?
Guess I'll just keep looking for where I put that info on how to set up XP
compatability on the program. Guess this is what I get for trying to do a
re-install.
If it doesn't work for me I'll just back to my XP machine. Now I know why
people hate Vista so much.

Buy the way, what does "MU" stand for.

Yes, that makes sense. However if you use outlook 2003 then there are some
legacy issues that they should take care of.

1) there is a 'check for updates' option in outlook that takes you to the
download website.

2) the download website SPECIFICALLY tells you to use something called
'OFFICE UPDATE TOOL' and that tool appears not to exist.

just fyi...try it out and you will see.

I don't use Outlook as my email client, but I located the "check for
updates" option in Outlook 2007 and it took me to MU update page.
So I guess the legacy issues relate to Outlook 2003 and below.
