office update

When I run office update I get these updates showing:

Update for Office 2003 French Grammar Checker (KB873381)
Update for Office 2003 French Spelling Checker and Thesaurus (KB892258)
Update for Visio 2003 French Spelling Checker and Thesaurus (KB892293)

The thing is I am running an English version of office 2003 on an English
version of win XP pro so I do not know why these updates are showing.

I have checked my computer and nothing about "French" is showing up.

I wondered if anyone knows why these updates where showing up.

I do not know where to look for the proofing tools but when I clicked on the
"Microsoft Office 2003 Language settings" there was a bit called "about
Microsoft office 2003 proofing tools"

Check Start - Settings - Add/Remove Programs - MS Office 2003 - Change - Add
or Remove Features - Next - Choose Advanced Customization of Applications -
Next - Office Shared Features - Proofing tools.

In the full Office 2003 setup, proofing tools are are installed for English,
French and Spanish. If you don't use French, and are positive you never
will, you can remove it by setting it to Not Available and clicking Update
(in this case, Update removes French proofing tools). After that, Office
Update should no longer try to install updates for it.

Herb:

I did what you said in both office and Visio. When I went to office updates
the said updates still show up. Do I have to reboot my machine before the
small problem disappears ?

Could be, since there are some things that don't get cached until you
reboot. But, in any case, you now know why Office update "thinks" French
matters.

Thanks Herb for your help.

Unfortunately the updates still show. At least it is not a critical problem.

Cheers
