Office update

Keir Sawdey

I have Windows 2000 OS installed on my computer and Office
XP pro. After I download Office XP SP1, I am unable to
get the service pack installed for it says that the
c:\config.msi patch has mbeen modified, but there is no
config.msi on my system.

Can you help me to resolve this problem or do I just need
to upgrade to XP pro as an OS?

I think I am having the same issue. When trying to install SP1 on a fresh, unmodified copy of Office XP Professional with Frontpage, the status bar gets about 2/3 of the way done then gives the following message: "Error 1328. Error applying patch to file. C:\config.msi\PT1066.TMP. It has probably been updated by other means, and can no longer be modified by this patch. For more information contact your patch vendor." The dialog box gives 3 options: Retry, Cancel, or Ignore. The next error message that occurs soon after I "Ignore" states the same thing, except this time with C:\config.msi\PT1380.TMP. The dialog box gives only 2 options this time, Retry or Cancel. I have to choose "Cancel", which uninstalls the patch completely and states that "This patch could not be applied." HELP?!

Doesn't anybody read or do searches anymore? I posted a great fix two
days ago: here it is again.

If you are getting that annoying error message when you try to d/l and
install Office XP SP-1:

"Error 1328 Error applying patch to C:\Config.Msi\PT10F.tmp. It has
probably been updated by other means, etc."

Try the procedure described in the following link:

http://pages.sbcglobal.net/raew/xp/offxp.htm

Not only did it work for me but I was subsequently able to d/l SP-2 and
it installed successfully, too, without using the workaround described
in the above link.

Good luck.

Steve

No Susan that didn't help. I already bought a retail copy of this product. Thanks though.
