Office Updater 2008 Stops working

Installed MAC Office 2008 on new brand new MAC Book
Office 2008 was student version from PTC, Imediately after installation it
asked if you wanted to install SP1 and I said yes after I closed all the open
programs. It stalled almost immediately with the progress bar showing only
about 1/16" of progress. It has been stuck there for 2 days and if I try to
close the dialog box for SP1 installer it says Installer is busy and does not
close.

How do I shut down the SP1 installer so I can try again???

Click on the Apple icon and choose Force Quit. Choose Microsoft AutoUpdate
from the list and click on the Force Quit button. Now download the
standalone SP1 installer, which you can find here:

63b02c/Office2008-1210UpdateEN.dmg>

If the above link does not work, try this one:

Run this updater, then see if Microsoft AutoUpdate works correctly
afterwards (open any Office application, then click on Help>Check for
Updates).

Have you recently updated your Mac OS X 10.5 system with the latest
security update from Apple (released on July 31)?

If so, this security update breaks all Microsoft Office 2008 updaters
from notifying you that you need to quit all Office applications.

To work around this, download the updater from Microsoft's web site
<http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.mspx>, log out of your Mac OS X
account and log in again with the Shift key held down. This will prevent
all startup items and Office daemons from running.

Run the updater and then restart your computer.

Diane is working on a blog post to explain more about this. Be sure to
check the blog link below and keep an eye for her post.

Hope this helps!

PLEASE HELP!

This is the second update in a row from Microsoft where their own lame AutoUpdate "feature" can't find installed versions of the software -- even though they're exactly where they themselves put them!

Of course, there's no way of overriding it -- and I can't for the life of me figure out how to contact Microsoft and get any meaningful support on this issue.

When is this company going to become embarrassed enough by their crappy track record and do something about quality control? Seriously, living in Seattle and encountering so many MS employees, it's clear they have no idea how much their company is despised. I don't get it. At some point, the teflon's got to come off!

Anyway, the "solution" for this problem last time was I had to reinstall the whole suite from scratch and then do all of the updates one by one. (No, they don't have a combined update.)

I'm not going to bother with this one because any time I save from applications opening faster is lost from the get go by having to go through this entire charade.

Get with the program, MS. Office for Mac used to rock but you just keep messing with it

Interesting -

Just this morning I updated Office 2004 to 11.5.1 & Office 2008 to 12.1.2 in
the space of about 15 minutes without so much as a hiccup. (Those preceding
these were equally uneventful.) All apps in both suites run like they're
supposed to & show improvement over previous versions.

I've also had no problem contacting MS through the Mactopia or main MS web
sites to provide feedback, access information or obtain technical support -
email, online or phone.

Huh! I guess Mom really *does* like me best :)
