Trying to use Office Updater with Office 2003 Pro, but updater stops at 40%
and error message reflects miraid of possible problems.

Have used solutions recommended at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304498 to
no avail...

Any other suggestions to get Updater to work

Thanks

If its having issues at 40% it may be detecting older version of office
files or registry keys left behind on your system. If you had applications
such visio on your system in the past and the uninstall was not successful
it can hamper the scanning. Also some data base application install the
access 2000 runtime update and this has been known to cause issues as well.
Downloading and installing the utility on this link (msicuu2.exe) can show
you if any previous version of office may have corrupted registry keys left
behind
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;295823

After running the windows installer cleanup utility and removing any
previous version of office install try updating again. If this is not
successful then uninstall office and run offcln.exe on the office 2003 cd
found in CD DRIVE\FILES\PFILES\MSOFFICE\OFFICE11.

Can-So, the Windows Install cleaner did not work either. I have not
uninstalled the version(s) of office yet, but it may be my next step.

Why can't MS create a script to fix the problem so I do no t have to
uninstall applications and reinstall them...?

Thanks
