Office Updates blocked

Hi
In the past, I have had no problem updating Office XP pro. I now get the
following message when I try, even though I have validated/activated my copy
some time ago. As far as I am concerned, the various programs in Office pro
do not ask me to activate as they did when I first installed, so I assume
everything is ok with the Office setup.
==================================
Microsoft Office XP Professional:

Validation Incomplete: Office Must Be Activated
The validation process could not be completed because your copy of Microsoft
Office has not been activated.

Activate Office now
Start any Office application. The activation wizard will walk you through
the steps required to activate Office.
For additional instructions, or if you have problems activating Office and
Office applications, visit knowledge base article # 828958. To learn more
about benefits of product activation, visit the How to Tell site.
=======================================

Can anyone throw any light on the problem as to why I should now be getting
this message. I can't validate again as the office programs are not asking
me to do so and anyway it has been done. Incidentally, the Office PX pro
program is a genuine article. I paid enough for it originally from a
reputable dealer and as I said, I have validated it in the past.

I would have e-mailed Microsoft to sort the problem out but at a charge of
£40 just to sort out a problem which must be of their making seems daylight
robbery.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards
