Office Updates for 2000 Pro

When trying to check for office updates (2000 Pro) via Microsoft site, I
receive error page stating that Office Update ActiveX Control Failed to Load.
I used the suggested fixes (KB 304498) to no avail. I also removed and
reinstalled Office 2000. Any suggestions?
