Office Updates for Word, Powerpoint, and Outlook 2003 hangs

I have downloaded and attempted to install the recent MS security updates.
The Windows XP updates installed without any issues. The Office 2003 updates
hung the PC. I restore PC backed to prior to the updates installation. I
then went to widows update web site and select only the Word 2003 update. It
downloaded okay, but was still installing this morning at 5 am from 9 pm last
night.

I search the newsgroup and seen the post about the .reg backup. I don't
have this on my system

How do I install these updates?
