Thanks, the first article you recommended helped me out. It turns out that
Norton AV and firewall must be disabled to the updates! Hope I don't catch a
bug now!

Norton is notorious in interference with Office in several ways. Reboot your
system after applying Office updates and your av/firewall app should return
to "enabled" status. Thanks for your reply.
