Office Updates

Richard Walker

I recently tried to update my installation of Office 2000.
Using the internet installer it prompted me for the
original cd needed for the install. This I provided but it
stated that the "data1.msi" file could not be found. I
checked the cd and the data1.msi file is there. What
gives?

Hi Richard,

When the dialog comes up check the 'use feature from box' in
that dialog to see what product CD is being asked for.
Also check in Add/Remove programs for other 2000 series installed
products. Data1.msi is the name used for the master installation
file on CD1 of every MS Office 2000 family product, but the file
contents are different for each one and they're not interchangeable.

Bob, this did not help me at all. I have both original
install disks and it asked for CD1, which i put in my
computer but it didn't recognize that it was there. At
least it stated that data1.msi was not found. I also used
the "fullfile" version of the install which supposedly
doesn't the need the original install disks but it asked
for them too. It stated that the data1.msi was either
corrupt or damaged. This isn't possible because I
successfully used the install disks on another ol\d
computer just to test them and everything installed
coorectly. I was getting rid of the old computer anyway so
I formatted the drive after the install of the original
2000 office program.
