Office Upgrade Error 1608

Linda

I bought a new HP a250n just a few days ago. I tried to
install my Microsoft Office 2000 Upgrade. Got an error
message telling me that it couldn't find any previously
installed compliant products on the machine for
installing the product. I realized then that my new
computer came preinstalled with Word Perfect and not
Microsoft Works as had my previous two computers(all with
Windows XP). I went
out and bought the new Microsft Works version 7 and
installed it - thinking this would enable my 'Office
upgrade" installation. No such luck - I got the error
message 1608, again saying 'could not find any previously
installed compliant products on the machine for
installing this product".
Am I out of luck on this one - or is there something I
can do to get the upgrade installed. Any help would be
much appreciated - I paid almost $400. for the upgrade
program and another $80. today for Works..so hope someone
has some ideas for me. Thanks
..

To qualify as an upgrade product your version of Works must pre-date the
release of Office 2000. Works Version 7 post-dates the release of Office
2000.

You can use your Office 2000 upgrade CD to qualify for Office XP upgrade.
You do not need to install the Office 2000.
