Office & Upgrade from Windows ME to Windows XP Prof

I have Office 2002 Standard & I upgraded my system from
Windows ME to Windows XP Professional. Afterwards, when
I went into Word and tried to open a document I was told
the document doesn't exist.

I uninstalled Office & re-installed it. Office then
worked okay. I then went out to the net and got all the
Office upgrades & security patches & again, I'm getting
the "document XXX doesn't exist" when I try to open a
document.

Please help.
