Office Upgrade From XP SBE to 2007

Hello,

I'm looking for some advice please.
I have been trialing the 2007 Professional Office suite on my laptop running
Vista but currently have Office XP SBE (OEM) on my desktop machine running XP
Home Edition.

In terms of upgrading to Office Professional 2007 what is the best option
given the desktop Office license is OEM (I do have the CDs)? I know that the
office 2007 can be put on two machines but can / does that work when the
software being upgraded is OEM and how would I activate the trial version on
my laptop?

Any advice is gratefully received.

Regards

No problem. Whether you have OEM version of Office XP or retail, you
can upgrade to the Retail Version of Office 2007 and install it on two
systems - Desktop and Laptop/other portable device.

When you install the retail version, please uninstall the trial version
first by going to Add/Remove programs from Control Panel. People have
said that they have had problems in installing the upgrade version on
top of Trial version. I always recommend people to run Microsoft's
WINDOWS INSTALLER CLEAN UP UTILITY version 3
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301)

This utility removes entries from the Registry and therefore
installation goes smoothly. THIS DOES NOT DELETE THE ACTUAL FILES IN
FOLDERS!!

Thanks for the reply.

Just to clarify: The desktop upgrade seems to be straightforward and for the
laptop removing the trial version is made easier with the utility you have
mentioned. In terms of using the upgrade disk to install office 2007 on the
laptop where office xp sbe has never been installed how will the upgrade
recognise a genuine product eligible for upgrade? Is it a case of having the
office xp discs handy for verification during the installation process?

YES. When you are prompted to insert the Office XP CD in the drive, you
will need to remove the Office 2007 CD/DVD from the drive (temporarily)
and when the verification is done, you will once again be prompted to
insert the Office 2007 media to continue with the installation. For
verification purposes you don't actually need to install the old
product; Only the media should be available for verification purposes.

If you have Microsoft Works 6.0 and above, then it should act as a
Qualifying product as well. In this case, you don't need media for the
old product. some machines and ALL DELL machines come with Works
pre-installed and this makes life a bit easier for people.

Hope this helps.
