Office Upgrade / Works Uninstall

Leigh

I just bought a new SONY computer that came with Works (and as usual gigabytes of other software) preinstalled. I have successfully upgraded Works to Office 2003 Professional. The primary harddrive on this computer is nearly 80% full which seems ridiculous for a new PC. I've been removing a number of programs I don't want using Add/Remove Utility

I see that Microsoft works is eating up a lot of hard drive space. Can I safely remove this program now that I have Office 2003 (Upgrade) Professional installed, activated and working? I don't use Works and I don't want to waste the hard drive space if it isn't needed. I have DVD backups of the original software setup if my hard drive ever fails so that I can restore the computer to its original state if ever needed.

Hi, Leigh,

You shouldn't have any problems if you remove Works. It would be helpful if
you get the original Works CDs from your original equipment manufacturer in
case you need to re-install Office and it requires proof that you had
Works...but you could always restore your hard drive, as you say.
