Office v.x corrupted download?

T

themamster

Anyone having problems downloading version 10.1.3 of the Office v.x
software for Mac from Microsoft's Mactopia website - under Mac
downloads? I have tried downloading both the .bin and the .hqx
versions and both seem to be corrupted. I need to download this so I
can move on to 10.1.5, which is the most recent version.

Anybody have suggestions?

Actually, you do not need 10.1.3. The 10.1.3 updates (which were solely
concerned with proofing tools for French and Italian) are included in
10.1.4.

The upgrade path is:

10.1.2 (combo update for all 10.x versions previous to 10.1.1)
10.1.4
10.1.5

(Note: if you have 10.1.1 you don't need 10.1.2, which was just an updated
updater of 10.1.1. 10.1.2 Updater works directly on both 10.0.0 and 10.1.0.)

That's only partly true. 10.1.1 is virtually the same as 10.1.2, and users
of 10.1.1 did not need to update to 10.1.2. However, to apply the 10.1.4
and 10.1.5 updates, you need to have 10.1.2 installed; your copy will not be
updated if you didn't install 10.1.2. I know this from experience.
which was just an updated
updater of 10.1.1.

10.1.2 contains not only 10.1.1, but also Service Release 1 (10.1.0), which
combined all of the previous updates with lots of other fixes. 10.1.1
wasn't a combined update and didn't contain Service Release 1.

Getting pedantic. Mickey? While that may be true, there is no way that
anyone could have had 10.1.1 _installed_ unless they have previously
installed 10.1.0 (SR-1), or else had already applied 10.1.2. Even the
short-lived 10.1.1 updater contained all updates subsequent to 10.1.0.
Furthermore, 10.1.1 appeared on the MacTopia website for only a week or so
way back in September 2002. Aside from beta-testers, who had had access to
it for a few weeks previously (as you know), hardly a soul applied 10.1.1.
If they did, they already must have previously applied 10.1.0.

In any case, my comment still stands: if you already have 10.1.1, you do not
need to apply the 10.1.2 Updater. (In fact, you probably applied it
already.)

Most people with 10.1.1 would assume they had to apply 10.1.2 before 10.1.4,
But they don't. That's why I said it. They already have have what they need
to apply 10.1.4. Period.

October, I think it was.

Right.

Like I said, Paul, that's only partly true. If the user (a) has applied the
short-lived 10.1.1 update and (b) has *not* applied the 10.1.2 update,
applying the 10.1.2 update will provide no difference in functionality.
That's why I didn't bother installing it until August 2003. However, not
applying 10.1.2 *will* prevent the user from being able to install the
10.1.4 update.
Most people with 10.1.1 would assume they had to apply 10.1.2 before 10.1.4,
But they don't.

Sorry, Paul, they do. I know this because I've tried it. I found myself
unable to install the 10.1.4 update on machines with 10.1.1 (I never
bothered to get the 10.1.2 update when it was released because it was
unnecessary at the time).

Even Microsoft says on the download page for 10.1.4:
"Before you install this update, you must first install Microsoft Office v.
X 10.1.2 Update."

No comment. ;-)
I did. :)

Oh that's a different. I hadn't understood that form your previous comment,
although that may well be my fault. I guess the 10.1.4 Updater looks at the
Microsoft Component Plugin.
Sorry, Paul, they do. I know this because I've tried it. I found myself

OK. Thanks for the info.
Even Microsoft says on the download page for 10.1.4:
"Before you install this update, you must first install Microsoft Office v.
X 10.1.2 Update."

(10.1.1 is no longer available. I thought either would do. Evidently not.)

I had trouble applying 10.1.5 the first time and had to reinstall from the
CD, 10.1.2 and 10.1.4 to get 10.1.5 to install properly. I had thought I
still had 10.1.1 when I first applied 10.1.4 previously, but that might well
have been a beta version of 10.1.4, come to think of it. Maybe that's why
10.1.5 had problems. Or maybe I've forgotten an earlier application of
10.1.2, which is possible. Anyway, I did ultimately go the approved route.
