Office V.x updates: which in which order?

Randy Goebel

With apologies for not finding quick coherence in the various threads
related to this, I don't have enough information to figure out how to
update Office V.x. One site

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;macoffx

indicate v.X 10.1.2 Update is the most recent, but also talk about
"service release "SR-1"

But from another site

http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx#OfficeX

there are clearly updates 10.1.2 through 10.1.5.

I've tried several times to install them in order, and sometime always
goes wrong (there is a long list, including repeated exposure to bugs
in Microsoft famous embedded systems like the org chart editor).

Does anyone have a coherent answer to what is the most stable updates
for the office suite programs? I really only use Word, Powerpoint,
and Excel...

These notes are a bit outdated now.

This one is the good link. You have to download and
install updates 10.1.2, then 10.1.4, then 10.1.5 (10.1.3
is "included" in 10.1.4).

Maybe you should simply uninstall Office, using
the "Remove Office" tool to be found in the "Value Pack"
folder on the CD, then reinstall it from scratch and apply
the patches. The "Microsoft User Data" folder in your
current "Documents" folder should remain untouched, so you
shouldn't loose anything (mails, etc.) But you can first
back it up, of course.

Think of backing up your templates or Personal Macros
Workbook if any, as these are saved inside the application
folder and will be deleted in the process (if I remember
well they are moved to the trash, but you'd better back
them up)...
