Hi there,
Could anyone give me the difference between Office X for Mac and
Office 2004 for Mac, teacher and student editions? I have the Office X
version. Thanks.

Hi Doug -

The list would be far too long to post here, but the 2 main distinctions -
at least to my feeble mind - are:

1- Office 2004 is far more stable & reliable, and

2- Office X is no longer as current (supported) version.

You might want to take a look at the Mactopia web site for what Office 2004
has to offer & compare to what you now have. The demo highlights many of the
differences & you can still download the 2004 Test Drive if you'd like:

Doug,

Office X was developed around a beta version (and by no means the last beta)
of OS 10.0. That operating system was the first cab off the rank in Unix,
and has changed in profound ways in the 6 years since. Consequently, you're
dealing with a dinosaur.

I'd strongly recommend buying Office 2004; there are many cheap deals
available on the net.

I don't have shares in Microsoft!

* SUGGESTION -- KEEP REVISITING AFTER YOU POST: If you post a question, keep
re-visiting the newsgroup for several days after the first response comes
in. Sometimes it takes a few responses before the best or complete solution
is provided; sometimes you'll be asked for further information. Good tips
about getting the best out of posting are at
http://word.mvps.org/Mac/AccessNewsgroups.html and
http://word.mvps.org/FindHelp/Posting.htm (if you use Safari you may see a
blank page and have to hit the circular arrow icon -- "Reload the current
page" -- two or more times).

The one you will usually notice most often is "Full Unicode Support".
Office 2004 supports a far wider range of characters in each font than
Office X. This is not a big issue if you do not send documents out from
your computer, but it's very handy if you receive documents from the Windows
world.

Cheers
