Office won't open.

HAL KUSHNER

I have been pestering this newsgroup and Bill and Diane particularly with my
riveting accounts of inability to format Entourage....now I have a new
problem.
Another computer...Macbook with Pentium Processor/ 2 Gigs of Ram/ Running
Leopard X.5.1...networked with all the others. Had MS Office/Mac
2004....been running well until ystrdy....Now when I try to open Entourage,
it quits instantly...when I try to open Word, Pwr Point, or Excel, the
message says:

ŒMS Word [or Excel or PwrPt] cannot load the MS Office shared libraries.
The files may have moved from their original locations.
Try the following:

1. Move Word [particular Application] back to its original MS Office Folder
[the apps are in the MS Office 2004 folder]
2. Reinstall Word [or appropriate app]¹

Now I did try the trial Iwork 08 that came with the computer recently
(forgot exactly when)...could opening Pages or Keynote have moved the MS
files from their libraries? Or what to do short of reinstall.

Thank you.

Lots of trouble...

I suggest getting another 2 GB of RAM. You have a nice new computer. Now
give it some juice. :)
ŒMS Word [or Excel or PwrPt] cannot load the MS Office shared libraries.

Try the following:

In the future, when you receive an error check the Entourage Error page and
the Entourage Text Errors Page.

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/error/page.html>

First try downloading the combo updater from Apple and run it again rather
than using Software Update. Since there is no combo updater for Leopard,
download the standalone 10.5.1 updater from Apple downloads.
<http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/>

Use "Remove Office" and re-install and update Office. If this does not work,
you will need to do an Archive & Install of the OS.

Updates for 2004 can be found here:

Move Word [particular Application] back to its original MS Office Folder [the

Reinstall Word [or appropriate app]¹

No, iWork would not cause this problem.

Just running the OS is pretty intensive. When Apple has a recommended RAM,
it's does just enough to run the OS and a few applications. I think they
should recommend what's really needed.

I'm packing my bathing suit now. :)
