Office -Word 2000

I had typed up some important documents back in 2004 using Microsoft Word 2000.
I put a password on the files. It's 2006 now and I can't remember what the
password was. Is there a way that I can retify this issue and retrieve these
documents? Something I can use to open them and get the information typed
back. Thank you.

It depends on how you protected it. If you used Tools/Protect Document
then you're in luck. Create a new document and use Insert/File to
insert the contents of the protected document.

Now if you protected it with a password to open then that's another
story. There are some password cracking utilities out there but the
success rate depends on what you used for the password and those that
actually work aren't free. After all, what's the purpose of a password
if it's easy to break into??

Something else to keep in mind, if you purchase such a utility you are
giving your credit card number to a known crack...
