Office.Word 2003. mailmerge Create a field string for a greeting l

Gwen

The greetingline in mailmerge does not have the options I desire to use.
The IF, OR, ELSE does not allow more than a 2-field argument

I need to address letters to various TITLEs
Problem appending TITLE1 NAME1
However I need a the comma to appear after NAME1 when NAME2 is blank
Also to include "and" after NAME1 when TITLE2 NAME2 (not empty) with comma
after NAME2
Since WORD does not allow you to insert a field directly in the document
and CTRL+F9 only works within IF, OR, ELSE
How do I work this out?
....
I know I can export the data and manipulate it ... BUT the higher UP's do
not want to do this. I've worked much too long on this and am getting
nothing accomplished except an extreme eye and shoulder strain. Thank you
for any offering you can give me on this.
