office word and outlook 2007

I'm finding that sending documents out of word and outlook 2007 is very
confusing in formats .
If you don't want the document to be edited by the people your sending it
to , it would seem that pdf files are the ones you would send ? but for the
average person they are to hard to open in the view they were written in and
are coded in english but not as typed by the sender .
There should be oppitions to have editable and not editable that any
average user can send and open by the person that is being sent to .
The easyest sent document is word but it's editable to the person it's sent
to , not the way I would want to send contracts .
I just need an idiot proof way to format and so any child can open the
attachments sent that can't be changed by them :)

There are several ways to mark a file as "read-only."

If you want to make a file read-only for everyone:
1. Click on the Office logo button in Word
2. Open the Prepare menu.
3. Click on "Mark as Final."

If you want to make a file read-only for some people:
1. Click on the Office logo button in Word
2. Open the Prepare menu.
3. Click on "Restrict Access".
4. Check the "Restrict Permission to this document" checkbox
5. Enter a list of who can change it and who can read it.

The second option is much more complicated than the first option. Outlook
2007 has a similar feature.

You can also set file properties on a file in Windows and mark it as
read-only. That is easy to undo, but it prevents people from changing the
file accidentally.
