Office XP (2002) recognize Office 2003 files?

The key admin support computer in our office needs to keep
Office XP (2002) because one critical application has not
been certified on Office 2003 yet.

The rest of the office personnel are migrating to Office
2003.

Will documents created in Office 2003 be recognized by
Office XP (2002) without have to select the "File Type"
pull down menu?

Any experience in this area would be appreciated.

The file formats have not changed. So that shouldn't be a problem.
