I could use a little insight on admin points and updating them -
Background -
We have a DFS with an Office XP folder on it - we deploy Office XP
from there - it has no updates - just the RTM version I guess (Setup
before I started here). Anyway - with all of the new patches coming
out due to GDI+ vulnerabilities I've been tasked with getting SP3 for
Office XP SP3 and all patches needed for Office XP to our desktops.
We deploy the pro.msi to the computers via GPO.
So to make sure I knew what I was doing, I copied the Office XP folder
from the DFS to my local machine and applied the Full File Admin
update of SP3 for Office XP to the folder local to my machine (which
is an exact copy of what's on the DFS).
So I deploy this "patched" version from my local machine to a test
machine in my cube and when I login to the test machine, the Office XP
version shows 10.0.2625 and it 'should' show 10.0.6626 according to
what I have seen with manual, by hand, installations of OFfice XP and
SP3.
So what gives? I don't get it - the .msp patch logs show the process
completed successfully and the pro.msi shows and time stamp of the
current date/time - so it's been updated - but when I deploy, it's
just the same old non-SP'd version of Office XP.
Can you not copy the admin install point and update it? If not, how
are you supposed to deal with a live environment? Am I doing
something wrong?
Any ideas/articles/tips/tricks appreciated - hope to hear from someone
soon. Thanks for your help ahead of time.
