Hi

I am trying to backup my Office XP Activation - I am copying the
DATA.DAT and DATA.BAK files and then restoring them - onto a duplicate
machine but it is still asking me to activate office - is this right

Well of course it is! You can't circumvent activation like that!

I am trying to stop the activation process - it tells me that that
version has already been activated.

So call the activation line then! Geez it's not rocket science!

Didnt really want to do that as I have a number of machines that this
may be a problem on - I am restoring an image on to cloned PC's - and
am looking for an easier way than phoning up 30 times or reinstalling
the software onto each pc

If you have that many machines then why didn't you purchase a volume
licence? Those don't require activation. Volume licensing starts from 10
systems I believe.

Licence purchasing decisions are not made by me - I have to work with
what I am given unfortunately.

Then I'm afraid you don't have any other choice.
