Office XP crashes only when I'm OFFLINE...

I have Office XP-SP3 on a Windows 2000 IBM T22 think pad. Office XP works
great when I'm online (my internet cable from my cable modem is plugged in),
but when I take the cable out (get offline), Office (mainly Word and Excel)
crashes within about 10-15 seconds of taking the cable out even when I'm not
using the application. It tries to send the error to Microsoft via the
online error reporting tool, which of course, it can't. If I plug the
network cable back in, Office is again stable. This is a problem when I
travel and I want to use my laptop offline.

Is the default printer in Windows a network printer? If so, try changing it
to a local printer. It's okay if there is no printer physically connected to
your Thinkpad.

You are a freaking genius! Worked like a charm. I never would have figured
that out on my own. Thanks!

You're very welcome, and thanks for the feedback. Most of us who hang
out in these Microsoft newsgroups do not work for Microsoft; we are
Office users just like you, and we answer questions on a volunteer
basis. Notes such as yours are our "paycheck", and you just made my
day! :)
