office XP hell ...

i've been keeping up to date with the daily security patches and office
updates.... and recently I have been experiencing serious instability with
MS Word ... it will crash after o few seconds for seemingly no reason. Also,
if I double-click on a Word doc on my desktop, Word launches but no doc
shows up... Word just hangs.

any ideas ?

How much memory do you have? I have had some machines do that with 64 meg
of ram. 128 works a lot better. I assume though that you have at least
that much so possibly you need to defrag? Or maybe all your ram is taken up
with things like weatherbug and realplayer and junk like that that eats ram
so that even though you think you have plenty, none of it is available for
word so word has to use virtual memory and that can really slow down your
computer and give you the symptoms you describe... charlie
