I've encountered a problem with installing Office XP
Professional on a new laptop I've just purchased (I
purchased the Office XP Professional CD quite a few months
back but only got the laptop on Friday July 4)). The
setup procedure works OK and it starts going through
installing files until it hits MSTORES.DLL, where it comes
to a halt. It chugs away a little while then comes up and
says "unable to install file" error, and the references it
gives suggest a dirty CD (CD is clean & another program
was installed OK via CD).
Has anyone else encountered this problem and/or know a fix
(or work around) for it?
My problem is compounded by three facts1) The only CD I
now is the backup copy I got made (the original was one of
about ten CDs that appear to have gone missing when I
moved house recently - I have my suspicions what happened
to them [theft] but cant prove it, although most are
useless to others as I have their activation/product keys),
and (2) I'm not sure the original CD didn't have the same
problem (I bought the CD on sale for a good price in
anticipation of purchasing the laptop this financial
year) - the store I bought it from has since closed (it
had been going for many years but appeared to fold for no
discernable reason).
