After installing office xp and office xp step by step interactive cd, I
ended up with a desktop explorer bar on the left side partially covering up
my desktop. I cannot seem to get rid of it. I tried several things like
refreshing the desktop, changing the the background picture, changing the
desktop theme, restarting the computer. Does anyone have any other bright
ideas for me? I would appreciate it very much. Thanks!

Right-click the deskbar and choose close. Or right-click the toolbar, choose
"Toolbar" and uncheck the checked item.

Eric,
Thank you for your suggestions. I have already tried to right-click the deskbar, but it won't even give me a menu to choose from; that's what had me puzzled. Tomorrow, I will try to see what is checked when I right-click the toolbar. The computer is at my workplace. I will post back if I don't have any luck.
