Office XP Installer error

M

Mark Warbeck

Office XP is installed on Windows 2000 Pro. When running with administrator
rights, all is well. If a regular user tries to run an Office application
they get Windows Installer which wants the CD. After inserting the CD, the
system never tries to access it and gives an error 1706. BTW, this is on a
laptop, and the problem seems to have started after an incident where the
laptop went in to hibernation and refused to wake up. The battery was pulled
to get it to respond again. Office has been removed and reinstalled with no
change. Anyone have an idea to fix this?

Thanks,
Mark

I am having the same errors (admin account runs ok, but
other users get error 1706) running Office 2000 on XP.
This link does not work for XP Windows installer.

Is there a fix available for XP?
