OfficeXp SP3 standard running on Windows XP Sp2.
I hope someone can help, we have a pc that when you double click on a
document to open office, office opens then closes straight away.
If you open office first then open the same documents it is fine.
Also if word for example is already open and you open another word document
it does not happen.
User only uses word and excel so they are the only ones tested.

Since this occurs when you double-click a file to open it outside the
application then it sounds like you need to recreate the file
associations. To do so, go to Start/Run and run the following for each
of the applications that exhibit the behavior:

winword /r
excel /regserver
powerpnt /regserver
msaccess /regserver

Note the space before the forward slash.

Even though they may 'look' the same you aren't seeing all of the data
utilized since some of the information Windows needs to open your
files correctly is stored in the Registry.

Occasionally I've found you need to delete the file association and
then use the /r and /regserver switches again to recreate them.

If that doesn't do it then please provide specific details on what you
are encountering. Take one application, Word or Excel, and let us know
exactly what happens when you try double-clicking a file outside the
application.
