office xp pro 2002 validation Key not valid

How can Microsoft block a product key that is on a geniune Office XP Pro CD?
Is there a way to correct this false negative for this Office product? It
is an older version on a new XP computer but it is genuine and should not be
blocked by Microsoft.

The exact error messege is "The Product Key used to install office has been
blocked by Microsoft."

The problem may be that there was a trial version of Office 2003 on the Dell
computer which was uninstalled before installing the XP pro version. How can
I correct this. Is this a Dell issue?

The key was printed on a sticker on the back of the package the CD came in.
It is a poly sleeve. The sticker looks like it came from a genuine source.
It was used on an ME machine without a problem, but when the person ordered
a new Dell with XP [a week or so before Vista came out] It won't recognize
Office XP Pro as being genuine. [btw I am helping out a disabled older lady
with her computer problems]

I went to the update site thinking it might solve an issue with Outlook
[2002] in the Office XP suite. That is when I received the message that
"The Product Key used to Install Office has been blocked by Microsoft." The
CD has a Hologram on it. I have never heard of Microsoft blocking a product
key number. Sounds like over reaction to people being able to use old
software on new machines. Anyway is there some way I can fix this problem.
