Office XP pro memory errors with vista

After installing Office XP Pro on a Vista Ultra machine. I try to change the
office assistant I get "There is not enough memory available to complete this
operation"! I have 2 gb of memory on this P4 3.06GB 160GB hd.
I have seen this same error on another New HP machine.
Any one have any ideas for a fix?
Also Office seems to be very slow when closing and saving a document.

Only Office 2003 and 2007 are fully supported on Windows Vista so I am not surprised by anything that throws an error. Have you tried Detect and Repair?

Yes I have tried and I get "Error 1913. Setup cannot update file
C:\Windows\system32\mapisvc.inf. Verify that the file exists in your system
and that you have sufficient permissions to update it."

Yes it exists, and is NOT read-only.
Yes I am system Administrator.
