Office XP Pro Outlook Problem

I hope someone has an answer to my question. I have uninstalled and
reinstalled Office XP Pro on an XP computer. The same problem with Outlook
keeps occuring. All the other programs in Office are working fine.

The problem is that when I open Outlook [2002 in Office XP Pro] the error
message says "Unable to open your default email folders. Could not open the
Item. Try again." I click "ok" then this message comes up. "Would you like
to open your default file system folder instead?" Click "No", Outlook
closes. Click "Yes" then "My Computer" files open.

There is not Inbox Icon in Outlook. When I click on the Outlook Today icon I
get the message "Unable to to display the folder. Microsoft Outlook could
not access the specified folder location. The folder no longer exists."

Is there an update to address this issue? Or is there something simple I
need to do? I have downloaded MS reinstall utility that removes registry
code but it does not find Office xp pro. So I have not used it.

I need to use Outlook. How can I fix this?

There is one circumstance that might be the cause of this problem but I
don't know what to do about it. The computer came from Dell with Office
2003 installed as a trial version. But since I already have the Office XP
Pro version, I uninstalled the Dell version and Installed my copy of Office.
Any help will be appreciated.

Use the Mail Applet in the control panel to create a new profile, add your
accounts & test, add a new data file, set to default
It maybe that OL2002 is trying to use a data file created with your OL2003
trial which it cannot as pre 2003 versions cannot read the 2003/7 data file.
PS Uninstalling Office or Outlook doesnt remove any data files

Well, I'm glad you straightened that out! I figured it was something like that because I had downloaded the Office Pro 2007 trial (a couple of times :) and when I finally went back to MSO XP, I was getting that message. But, that brings up a good point - How do we get the data out of that *&^% unreadable .PST file?

Thanx,

I had the same message after de-installing Outlook 2007 and went back to
Outlook 2002. I could get it fixed by using the Help-Detect and Repair
menu-item from Outlook 2002.After that I had to reconfigure the mail accounts
after.
