Office XP Pro Problem

Ken

Hi everyone,

I tried doing a lot of different things before I came
here for help... hopefully you guys can help me out.
Well, I have Office XP Pro already installed on my system
(2 Ghz Dell Dimension 8200, 512 RDRAM, 120 GB hd) when it
got assembled by Dell. Therefore, I don't have the Office
XP Pro CD on me...

Anyway here's the problem. Whenever I click on the
shortcut that opens MS Word, the program opens for a
second then shuts itself down without me doing anything.
No error messages or anything... it just closes itself
and goes back to the desktop. I tried to disable some of
the startup menu items by using "msconfig" but that
didn't do anything. I couldn't do product update because
it required that I have the CD and I wasn't sure what the
update does. Also, for other Office programs like
Frontpage or Powerpoint, whenever I click on "About ..."
under the help bar the program exits, with no error
prompt either.

This is very strange because I didn't download anything
recent on my computer nor did I change around the
settings. Every Office program worked fine without a
problem until recently. It just decided to not work and
play games with me. I downloaded the windows updates but
that screwed up my system because apparently one of the
service pack installs was corrupt so it messed up my
initial Windows boot. I don't think this could be a virus
because my virus checker didn't pick up anything, even
when I scanned my hard drive.

I've been picking my brains out trying to find out what
the problem is but I can't come up with a solution. What
do you think this is and what should I do?

Thanks in advance!

Ken

Hi Ken,

Dell is required to provide the CD for MS Office software
it installs. Their edition would be Microsoft Office XP
Professional plus Publisher. You'll usually need it to
do a repair/reinstall of Office.
