Office XP Pro SP3 Synchronization Error

Slipstreamed Office XP Pro SP3 to an existing network install that is
deployed through AD (User Configuration/Software Setting/Microsoft Office...)
When a new users first attempts to login to a previously used machine they
receive the error message "The installed product does not match the
installation sources. Until a matching source is provided or the installed
product and source are synchronized...". Am I going about applying a network
upgrade to SP3 the correct way and why the error?
