Office XP Pro Upgrade

R

Robin Defoe

I decide to upgrade an Office XP Small Business machine to
the Pro version. However, when I try to install the
software I am getting a message that "no qualifying
product can be found". The install then asks for a
location. I've tried the C: drive and the CD-ROM (with the
original CD inserted), but still no luck.

The machine is a Dell Optiplex GX150 running Windows 2000
and the Office XP Small Business software came pre-
installed.

Any suggestions?

Hi Robin

MS doesn't recognize moving from one edition of
the same Office version to another edition to
be an upgrade (http://microsoft.com/office/howtobuy)
Office XP Small Business Edition is an OEM (preinstalled only)
version for new PCs. Check with your PC supplier
to see if they have a policy for upgrading to
the Office XP OEM Professional + Publisher edition.

Having been told that "MS doesn't recognize moving from
one edition of the same Office version to another edition
to be an upgrade" by Bob Buckland (even though the box
states that "The software will only install if you are a
licensed user of one of the following products" which
includes Microsoft Office Small Business), I've tried to
find information relating to the problem from Dell,
without success.

Unfortunately, I can't afford to wait too long to find an
answer, so my intention is to uninstall Office, install a
copy of Office 2000 and then install the Office XP Pro.

Hopefully this will work.

Hi Robin,

You don't need to install the Office 2000 product
first as long as you have the Office 2000 CD available
any time you install an Office XP upgrade product.
