Hi
I have a genuine copy of Offcie XP PRO (purchased from Microsoft new) and I
used to be able to update the product but for some time now have been unable
to get any security udates online because I am told at the point of updating
that thye copy on my computer has not been validated. Whe I try to validat
it the message comes up that "validation has failed" I have followed all the
suggested routs but still can not sort the problem out. I know that I have
registered the product and it all seem to be working well. I have even tried
to do the "repair" process. I can update Windows XP whenever necessary.

Can anyone help please.

Found this on another newsgroup, credited to a Microsoft Genuine Advantage
team member:
1) Go to: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application
Data\Microsoft\Office\Data\
2) Delete the data.dat file.
3) This data.dat file is for Office (not OGA).
4) Once the file has been deleted, open an Office application such as MS
Word and or FrontPage and ACTIVATE it.
5) After product activation is successful, revalidate (this is the OGA
part; Office Genuine Advantage):
