Office XP Problem

Under C:\windows\installer I have hundreds of files that seem to be
duplicates. For example on 9/10/2006 there were 63 files for msoffice added
to this directory. All the files seem to be duplicates. They were all
added at the exact same time and date. They are name different such as
4c20d7.msp, 2f3e128.msp, 1c1b269.msp but they all seem to be the same file.
When I click on any one of them it starts ms office setup. Their titles all
say the same thing. My problem is that there is 5 gig of these files and
they are using up my harddrive space rapidly. Can I delete these or is
there something I can do about them? What would cause this many duplicates?

This is the install cache for service packs and patches. as the media you
might have for Office doesn't contain them, setup can't work correctly
without the .msp files. As such, it is highly not recommended to delete
these files, if you do so, you might be unable to un/reinstall the product

5 gig in size is interesting though...
