Office XP Professional: Can't Apply SP1!

I'm having problems trying to install Service Pack 1 to Office XP
Professional. When I try to install the update, it says it can't find
Front Page (which is installed and runs) and asks for the original CD.
It spits out the following error after I insert the CD:

"The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service
because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch
may update a different version of the program. Verify that the program
to be upgraded exists on your computer and that you have the correct
upgrade patch."

The problem is referenced in Microsoft Knowledge Base article #305406,
but now solution/workaround is given. Can anyone help me with this?
