Office XP Professional Re-activation

Office XP has just started to ask for product reactivation
because it has detected a significant change. No changes
have been made. Inserting the Office XP disk and
following the prompts causes eventually disposes of the
dialog boxes without any completion message.

However every time the computer is re-started the re-
activation wizard starts up again. Repeated insertions of
the CD does not cause the problem to go away.

Is it prompting for the CD?
Activation should require some form of internet access of the entry of a
code obtained over the phone.

So is there a reason that you don't want to reactivate?

It doesn't take much time.

Is there some kind of hardware problem and Windows is "rediscovering"
hardware on each boot?

I am quite happy to reactivate, but the wizard only asks
for the CD. There are no other options. I tried to
reactivate but the got a message saying the product did
not require reactivation.

I'm having a very similar problem: no major changes, but when I open outlook
I get the prompt to reactivate & insert the cd. I put in the cd, click OK and
it starts "preparing to install". Then *poof* - it's gone. No messages,
errors or activation.
I can't do anything except receive email. I checked the disk and on clicking
'setup.exe' it claims the patch package could not be opened.
I went to office updates, it can't even tell me what I need. I think I'm
missing a windows installer patch file (.msp), but what one? And where did it
go?
Someone suggested copying the whole disk to my hard drive and directing the
activation there, but I'm not sure how to get it to look anywhere but my cd.
If I come up with anything on this I'll post it, I'd appreciate the same
from anyone else with a solution.
Thanks!
